The Society of Women Engineers Announces Keynote Speaker for WE10 Annual Conference

CHICAGO – June 28, 2010 – The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) is pleased to announce Tana L. Utley, chief technology officer and vice president of the Product Development Center of Excellence at Caterpillar Inc., as the keynote speaker for the Society’s WE10 Annual Conference, Nov. 4-6 in Orlando, Fla.

As the top technical leader at a Fortune 50 company, Utley has created a path to balance her personal passions with her drive to succeed professionally. Her keynote address will explore lessons she has learned along the way, including how to cultivate a personal brand, make and use connections, probe motives and protect and savor creativity. Utley’s inspirational address will help women engineers recognize their unique history and day-to-day challenges that nurture personal knowledge and professional development.

“Tana Utley has spent years providing unmatched leadership, growing the global footprint for a Fortune 50 company and defining success on her own terms,” says Betty Shanahan, Executive Director and CEO of SWE. “WE10 attendees have an exceptional opportunity to learn from, and be inspired by, this amazing executive, women engineer and SWE member.”

Utley joined Caterpillar in 1986 after earning her Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Bradley University. Throughout the years, she has served in numerous capacities, enhancing leadership skills and developing the company’s long-term strategic plan. In 2007, Utley received her Master of Science degree in management from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Utley currently leads the development and deployment of the Caterpillar Product Development System, and supervises program prioritization, the growth of Caterpillar’s global footprint and engineering recruitment and development.

WE10, the largest gathering of forward-thinking women engineers and technologists, will take place Nov. 4-6 at the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, Fla. Nearly 5,000 expected participants worldwide will have the opportunity to network and gain knowledge that will advance their careers, launch innovation and help them define their own success.
